Compare Energy Costs March 2005 For All Important Heating Fuels
|
|
Use the table below to compare relative costs of the different forms of heating fuels. It is plain to see that electric power is the most expensive (use the last column to compare like with like). Another name for Propane is LPG (Liquefied Natural Gas)
| Energy Source | Cost in common unit of measure | Cost per million Btu |
| Electricity | 9.06 cents / KWh (kilowatt hour) | $26.55 |
| Natural Gas | $1.09 / therm (100,000 Btu) or $11.23/ MCF (1,000 cubic ft.) | 10.92 |
| No. 2 heating oil | $1.76 / gallon | 12.68 |
| Propane | $1.55 / gallon | 16.94 |
| Kerosene | $2.20 / gallon | 16.32 |
Federal Register, March 11, 2005
Given that oil has increased dramatically in price since March 2005 it is estimated that the above figures should be about 30% higher fro November 2005 and they are forecasted to stay at these higher levels for 2006
On this assumption prices used throughout these web pages are based on this table below
